official representative body for this sector. Marco VisalberghiMarco Visalberghi has worked as a producer and director since 1969. Since 1980 he has
collaborated with the RAI’s flagship science magazine series Superquark. In 1988 he founded
Paneikon Productions and worked as its Managing Director and Executive Producer. His vision
led Paneikon into the international market of science and technology as well as nature and
wildlife documentary filmmaking. In 1999 he founded DocLab Productions and acts as its Managing
Director. His passion for his work leads him to constantly seek the combination of technical
innovation, creative talent and a good story for the audience. Marijke Rawie, Managing Director of ExpertDocs, NetherlandsMarijke Rawie, Managing Director of ExpertDocs, was during the last 17 years Head of
Art Documentary at AVRO, 1st public broadcaster in the Netherlands. In 1991 she founded
the documentary slot "AVRO Close Up" which became one of the leading international
co-producers and co-financers of documentaries in Europe. Marijke Rawie is involved in several international documentary institutions: Marcello MustilliMarcello Mustilli, partner of the law firm “BLM (Bellettini, Lazzareschi, Mustilli)” (www.blmius.com), is a lawyer specialized in art and entertainment law. After a J.D. cum laude at the University of Rome in 1996 he got an LL.M. in international copyright and trade law at King’s College London in 2002 and attended other specialization courses in international copyright. He is member of the Italian bar since 1999 and of other associations including IBA (International Bar Association), IAPIP (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) and IAEL (International Association of Entertainment Lawyers). His clients mostly include authors and producers of audiovisual works as well as cultural institutions. Before founding his own firm, Marcello Mustilli has practiced in major legal firms in Italy and U.S. His main areas of practice include copyright law, film production and distribution, contract and litigation. American Partner BiosPatricia Aufderheide, Center for Social Media, USCenter for Social Media director Patricia Aufderheide is a professor in the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C., and the director of the Center for Social Media there. She is the author of, among others, Documentary: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford, 2007), The Daily Planet (University of Minnesota Press, 2000), and of Communications Policy in the Public Interest (Guilford Press, 1999). Aufderheide has received numerous journalism and scholarly awards, including career achievement awards in 2006 from the International Documentary Association and in 2008 from the International Digital and Media Arts Association. She has been a Fulbright and John Simon Guggenheim fellow and has served as a juror at the Sundance Film Festival among others. Aufderheide serves on the board of directors of Kartemquin Films, a leading independent social documentary production company, and and on the editorial boards of a variety of publications, including Communication Law and Policy and In These Times newspaper. She has served on the board of directors of the Independent Television Service, which produces innovative television programming for underserved audiences under the umbrella of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and on the film advisory board of the National Gallery of Art. She received her Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. Peter JasziPeter Jaszi is faculty director of the Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic and professor of law. He holds expertise in intellectual property and copyright law. He was Pauline Ruvle Moore Scholar in Public Law from 1981-82; Outstanding Faculty Scholarship Awardee in 1982; and he received the AU Faculty Award for Outstanding Contributions to Academic Development in 1996. He is a member of the Selden Society (state correspondent for Washington, D.C.). Previously he was a member of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. trustee, 1992-94; International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property; National Zoological Park, Washington, D.C., Animal Welfare Board, 1986-present; Library of Congress Advisory Committee on Copyright Registration and Deposit (ACCORD), 1993. He has written many chapters, articles and monographs on copyright, intellectual property, technology and other issues. He was editor of The Construction of Authorship: Textual Appropriation in Law and Literature (with M. Woodmansee, Duke University Press, 1994) (also published as a law journal issue, 10 Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Journal 274, 1992). He is co-author of Legal Issues in Addict Diversion (Lexington Books, 1976) and Copyright Law, Third Edition (Matthew Bender & Co., 1994). Neil SielingNeil Sieling is a media arts curator, television producer, and media systems architect. He was the Executive Producer of Alive From Off Center, the experimental arts/television showcase on PBS. Recent consultancies include The Independent Television Service (ITVS); The Open Society Institute (affiliated with The Soros Foundations Network), and the POV series on PBS. He helped launch and program Link TV, a new public channel. Link TV (aka WorldLink TV) launched in 1999, and Sieling continues to license programming for the channel as well as doing strategic planning. He was the Executive Producer for the digitally animated documentary works Figures of Speech, by Bob Sabiston and Tommy Pallotta (Co-Creators of Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly). He completed a significant research project with The Rockefeller Foundation related to their past and future awards in the Digital Arts and also completed a feasibility study for the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations connected to the effort of understanding new creative practices in the performing and media arts in the 21st Century. He helped coordinate the Augmented Social Network (white paper that was commissioned by the Link Tank and continued that effort into work for the Interra Project. Interra intends to connect everyday economic decisions with people’s values via card-based transactional and membership systems. He was the co-convener for the Digital Independence Conference, held in San Francisco in 2001 and 2004, and authored a major study on DVD’s for National Video Resources. He is currently a founding member of a new company called Meta Qi (a.k.a. The Open Network) that intends to aggregate audiences for independent and public-minded media work, and is on the advisory board for Mass Roots, a new group that intends to develop tools that enable ordinary citizens to leverage their economic power to combat climate change and encourage more sustainable development. Canadian Partner BiosKirwan CoxKirwan Cox is on the board of the Documentary Organization of Canada and the English-language Arts Network of Quebec. He is a researcher and writer currently working on a documentary about the origins of the electronic computer for EyeSteelFilm, and a lecturer in documentary history, mass media policy, propaganda, and English-Canadian cinema at Concordia University, Montreal. As an independent consultant, he has undertaken numerous studies on various aspects of production and broadcasting for both private and government sponsors, including copyright, international broadcast license fees; and an analysis of English-language production in Quebec. David FewerDavid Fewer is Staff Counsel at the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC). David is an intellectual property and technology lawyer, and brings a decade of practice experience to CIPPIC’s advocacy on intellectual property and technology files. Prior to joining CIPPIC, Mr. Fewer practised intellectual property and technology law with national firms in British Columbia and Ontario, and clerked with the Federal Court of Canada. He completed an LL.M. at the University of Toronto, where he wrote on intellectual property policy and the application of the Charter to copyright law. He has taught and written extensively on intellectual property and technology law issues, and is a frequent commentator in the media on such issues. Brett GaylorBrett Gaylor is a documentary filmmaker and new media director. He is the creator of OpenSourceCinema.org, a video remix community supporting the production of a feature documentary about copyright in the digital age. He is also the web producer of Homeless Nation.org, a web project dedicated to bridging the digital divide - allowing everyone to participate in online culture. Brett has been on staff with EyeSteelFilm for 6 years as an editor, music supervisor and director. Brett is one of Canada's first videobloggers and has been working with youth and media for over 10 years, and is a founding instructor of the Gulf Islands Film and Television School. Tina HahnTina Hahn is the founder of Symmetree media. Her specialty is post production and she has edited over 40 independent productions over the last 10 years and has worked for many independent producers as well as the National Film Board and the Toronto International Film Festival. Tina has produced and directed programming for Discovery Health Channel Canada, CTV, Bravo! Canada, Book Television, Knowledge Network and SCN. She is currently in completing a documentary about community cycling around the world for OMNI Television and is in development on “Green City Challenge” with ARTE France and CBC Television. Tina is an active member of the film community and currently serves as Treasurer on the National Executive of the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) and is the former Chair of the Professional Development Committee of the DOC Toronto Chapter. Elizabeth KlinckElizabeth Klinck has worked as a producer, researcher and clearance specialist on hundreds of award-winning documentary films in the Canada, the UK and US. Projects she has worked on have garnered Emmy, Gemini, Peabody and Academy awards. A graduate of Queen’s University, Elizabeth recently instructed a course in research at Ryerson University in Toronto. She is a member of the board of directors for FOCAL International, Audio Visual Trust (Canada), and History makers. She is the founding chairperson of the Visual Researchers Society of Canada (VRSC), and a member of the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) and WIFT (Toronto). In 2005 she was nominated for FOCAL’s Researcher of the Year Award. In 2006 she was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft – Research. In 2008 she was honoured with FOCAL International’s Lifetime Achievement Award. |
